Policies

Library use: The library is designed for classes, reading, research, and quiet work.

Computer use: Students must log in prior to using library computers. Games, social networking sites, IM, and music playing/downloading are not authorized. Students are strongly encouraged to use USB drives to store their information.

Borrowing Policies: All materials may be checked out with the exception of reserved items, reference books, and periodicals. Books are checked out for a period of two to three weeks. Items may be renewed twice unless a hold is placed on them.

Overdue Policies: Fines for overdue materials are not charged. Overdue notices are e-mailed directly to parents on a weekly basis. After the third notice a letter is sent to parents informing them of the overdue items and advising them of the replacement costs. Collection boxes are maintained in lower school classrooms for book returns: it is, however, preferable for students to return books to the library personally.

Food and drink: Not permitted.

Reading: Encouraged.

American History Online
Spanning more than 500 years of political, military, social, and cultural history, the American History Online database provides subject entries, biographies, primary sources, images and videos, maps and charts, and timelines to produce a virtual library of American history for students and researchers.

Ancient and Medieval History Online
Ancient and Medieval History Online provides thorough coverage of nine civilizations - ancient Egypt, ancient Mesopotomia, ancient Greece, ancient Rome, ancient and medieval Africa, medieval Christendom, the Americas, ancient and medieval Asia, and the Islamic Empire. Coverage from prehistory to 1500. subject entries, biographies, primary sources, images and videos, maps and charts, and timelines.

Britannica Online Reference Database
Includes the Encyclopedia Britannica (high school), Compton's by Britannica (middle school), and BritannicaElementary encyclopedia. Contains a wide variety of accurate articles matched to grade level. Video andaudio clips are provided for some inquiries, as well as recommended and quality checked Web sites.Password required. Obtain from library staff.

Discovery Education Video Database
Designed for online streaming of segmented, educational, K-12 videos. You must set up an account to use: faculty use only. See librarian for account up procedures.

JSTOR Academic Journal Articles
Intended for high school students and faculty members. Access to large database of important scholarly journals. All subjects represented. Passwords to access database and set up account available from librarian.

Maps 101
Geography database. 4,000 maps, history maps, atlases, and interactive. Useful for teachers and students. Password required, obtain from library staff. Watch a 3-minute tutorial.

Science Online
Science Online offers a comprehensive overview of a broad range of scientific disciplines in a variety of useful formats: topics, terms, and principles; images and videos; experiments and activities; biographies; definitions; science in the news; timelines.

World News Digest
World News Digest brings seven decades of news in an archival record of domestic and international news, with unrivaled depth, breadth, and accuracy, dating back to 1940.
