Physical Education

Physical education at The Heights channels the interests of young boys and develops tough, strong, fatigue-resistant men. The program develops interest in many sports and teaches cooperation, leadership, and camaraderie.

Lower School: Grades 3 through 5 meet every day for 50 minutes. Classes compete against each other in a variety of team sports, including football, basketball, soccer, lacrosse, and baseball. We also play large group games such as dodge ball and tagging games. Periodic fitness events measure push-ups, sit ups and running. The lower-school program develops running, jumping, hand-eye coordination, catching, throwing, and balance, as well as interpersonal skills, confidence, and a sense of fitness.

Middle School: Grades 6 through 8 meet daily for 50 minutes. We offer sixth-grade teams for soccer, basketball, lacrosse, baseball, swimming, and cross-country. We also have middle school club teams in golf, wrestling, and hockey. Middle school teams practice during the P.E. period. Students not on a team play small group games, which range from basketball to fitness testing through timed runs and other exercises.

High School Intramural Program: We offer intramural sports for upper school students. All upper schoolers are welcome, but intramurals are mandatory for students not on a junior varsity or varsity team. Intramural participation receives a pass / fail grade. Four-week sessions run in October and April on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:15 pm-4:15 pm. We offer flag football, ultimate Frisbee, indoor soccer and basketball.
