Early in the second half Ricardo Jose Melendez Munoz put away a goal away for the Heights, but the game was hardly over. St. Andrew's continued to fight hard, but the young goalie JP Royals saved some amazing shots to shut St. Andrew's out and give us our third straight victory, with a 1-0 score. The Heights JV took on the Field school at home on Wednesday. It was a hard fought first half, with several opportunities on both sides. However, both teams were scoreless after the first half. The Heights came out hard after the half and quickly drove the ball downfield with several good connecting passes. Pat Pacious served the ball into the box, where it ricocheted off of several players before Ricardo Jose Melendez Munoz was able to tap it in for the goal. JV Season Summary--2007 - Home

    The 2007 JV Soccer Season

After having a very successful 2006 season, it was hard to know what to expect this fall for the Heights' JV soccer team.  Our team consisted of many new players and others who had not started or had little experience. With 32 boys trying out, we chose 21 players and 6 for the practice squad.  Dan Sushinsky and Peter Vitz were the assistant coaches who really helped to develop this inexperienced team.

The season began with some tough scrimmages.  It looked as though is was going to be a really long season.  But, after a couple of games, the team showed quite a bit of improvement.  We tied 2 - 2 to Bullis, lost 2 - 1 to Georgetown Day and tied 0 - 0 to St. Stephen's.  Though not a high scoring team, the boys worked hard at each game.  We follwed with a 2 - 1 loss to St Alban's but beat St Anselm's 2 - 1.  We seemed to really come together when we beat Sandy Spring Friends School 3 - 0.  We had to refocus again after our loss to Sidwell 3 - 0.  The game against Bullis really showed that the boys would give it all they could. Even though we lost 2 -1 to Bullis at their homecoming, it felt like we had won since we had outplayed this strong team.  We were disappointed with our tie to Avalon 1 - 1, loss to Landon 5 - 1 and loss to Seton 1 - 0.  We had some top opponents to play in Wilson losing 3 - 0.  This tough game really seemed to pull us together as a team. The high water mark of the season was our game against Flint Hill.  This was the best game of the season.  The team  really put their hearts into it.  The final score was 0 - 0.  It was an impressive to see that the boys did not want to lose to a top team in the area.  We ended with a 1 - 0 loss to Mercersberg in the final three minutes.

Overall, I was very pleased with the season.  Our final record was 4 - 7 - 4 where we were in every game outside of Landon.  For a team with little experience, their improvement and tenacity were impressive.
This team has really developed this year.  I am looking forward to seeing their success in 2008.
